Aphasia software for Speech therapy after Stroke or brain injury

THE NEURO NEWSLETTER – August 2001

The newsletter provides information for speech therapists, those with speech & language difficulties, and their caregivers.

-Clay Nichols, Editor

PS - You may have noticed that we didn't have a July issue. I've been pretty busy as my wife, Terri, just gave birth to healthy twin girls in April and we're still recovering. I hope to get back to a one issue per month schedule soon. If you have feedback on whether a monthly or every-two-months schedule is preferable, let me know.

  3. ON THE WEB
How to easily view any web-site listed in your email.

Has someone ever emailed you a link to a really great web-site? Did you have to manually copy the address, letter-by-letter, from your email into your web browser? Or maybe you had to print out your email so you could see the address to type it in.

If so, there's an easier way. Here's how…

SOME email programs will *HIGHLIGHT* the web address (http://www.BungalowSoftware.com/newsletter/ ). If so, you can probably DOUBLE-CLICK on the address to launch your web browser and view that site. Try it and see.

If double-clicking on the link above does NOT open your web browser to that page, check out the instructions below.

HOW TO CUT 'N PASTE browser.

Cut 'n Paste is a time saving feature available in nearly all Windows programs. How many times have you needed to copy text from one program to another?

Detailed explanation is following web page:

      http://www.coolcart.com/cut-and-paste.html

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Highlight* the web address (use the TEST LINK above) using "click and drag" and press** "<control> c" to COPY, i.e., hold down the CONTROL key and then press the 'c' key.
    2.

    3. Open your WEB BROWSER, and position your cursor in the LOCATION or ADDRESS box (where you normally type addresses in). (The name of that box may vary in different web browsers)
    4.

    5. Press "<control> v" to PASTE the address. Congratulations!! Now you're an Internet veteran!
    6.

    7. TIP: this technique also works in most Windows-based programs.

DID YOU FIND THIS HELPFUL? Please let me know. My goal is providing resources on topics of interest to YOU.

  1. FEATURED PROGRAM
Aphasia Tutor 1+: Words Out Loud
Aphasia Tutor 2+: Sentences Out Loud
  2. http://www.bungalowsoftware.com/aphasia1plus.htm

    http://www.bungalowsoftware.com/aphasia2plus.htm

Aphasia Tutor was one of our first programs back in 1995. It's also been our most popular. We've now added SPEECH to the program to create the new Out Loud versions. They have all the features of the "standard" Aphasia Tutor 1 and 2 but also add spoken cues and spoken answers for extra help. You can also use these programs for auditory comprehension in the Deluxe and Pro Out Loud versions.

These new programs have only been available for a few weeks, but we've already gotten very enthusiastic response such as this:

    "Hi Clay,

Just wanted to let you know that we received the program. It is really good. We did a little with Mel. We haven't really yet begun using it everyday yet, but we are looking forward to use the program. Thank you,"

    -Eva

STUTTERING CONTROVERSY

On June 10 and 11, a 2-part San Jose Mercury News article appeared which discussed an experiment that allegedly induced stuttering among children in an orphanage. The president of the national speech pathologists organization (ASHA) wrote a letter condemning these experiments as violations of the Code of Ethical Conduct. For more info on this story and ASHA's response, see the link below:
